3D Models and Their Uses

3D or three dimensional models are used for a variety of purposes. Surgeons and filmmakers are only two of the many professions that use 3D models on a regular basis. 3D models are created by mapping various coordinates in a 3D space.

Medical professionals use detailed 3D models of organs to teach medical students, outline and plan surgical intervention as well as demonstrate procedures to students and patients. Plastic surgeons use detailed software to create 3D models of the body to demonstrate a "before and after" to the potential patient.

There are two types of 3D models: Solid and Shell. Solid models define the volume of the 3D model are solid, such as piece of stone. Solid 3D models may be used in many engineering models. They are used for simulations that are non-visual. Shell 3D models are more diverse and contain the outer layer, and represent the surface of a 3D model. Shell 3D models are used within film making and video game creation to allow the user to manipulate the model as needed.

3D models have many benefits over traditional 2D models, such as: the flexibility that is offered with the use of 3D models - we can change angles, or create animated imaged much quicker than using two dimensional models. 3D models combined with software enable us to make instant calculations. This is one of the reasons why 3D models are increasing in popularity with earth scientists and engineers. Lastly, 3D models allow us to have a concise picture of an object which allows for higher levels of accuracy when building, designing or figuring. Additionally, 3D models have the benefit of becoming easily animated to see all facets of a structure or object. It is this feature, the ability of 3D models to be turned on a sphere, from the middle point that has increased the functionality of the renderings.

3D Model use in Graphic Design

3D models are used widely in graphic designs that contain 3D animations. A graphic is created by a coordination of points on a chart. A model does not become a graphic until it has been visually displayed by animation and rendering. There are three parts to creating a 3D model within a graphic design. First, 3D modeling occurs in which a shape is given to an object using the coordination points. These points are graphed onto a chart. In the case of graphic designs, the majority of models will be shell models which can be easily manipulated for size and shape.

Next, layout and animations occur which give can give movement to the object within its scene. Next comes the process of rendering, rendering the 3D object refers to creation of images from that particular object. This particular step gives the spacing between the image and the scene in which it is found it with by special measurements. Layout determines how the object is going to move over time, and if any change will occur within the object.

Rendering is the process in which the animation is taken from a 3d model to a graphic. It includes the visualization of an image that can be manipulated with style or light. Rendering has two basic processes: these are, scattering and transport. Scattering defines how the surface of the object will interact with the light and transport defines the process of how light will get to one place or another. There are two ways that a 3D image can be implemented into a software program. It can be created by the program, or another design program, or the image can be scanned into the computer with scanning software.

After a model has been rendered, it is easily transformed to 2D to ease the editing process, but the process of creating a 3D model from a 2D means the three step creation process must occur; (modeling, layout and rendering).

3D Model Use in the Medical Field

More than likely, the most familiar 3D models in the medical field can be seen on a visit to the local Doctor's office. Within that office there are 3D structures of organs, from the heart and lungs to the digestive or skeletal system. These models are used for teaching anatomy or medical students, or used to demonstrate abnormality, disease or procedures to patients. Although the organs lie inside the body, the 3D models give the patient an opportunity to visualize the organ in the correct manner.

Software has made it possible for surgeons to create surgical plans, and be assisted throughout the procedure. Specific software renders 3D images of the organs that are to be operated upon. These medical 3D models are accurate in size and shape but some also in detail - even texture. The models are created as similar to organs as possible. This feature allows surgeons to learn, before assisting with a procedure on a human body, to know the feel of an organ. Specific textures and materials are used to create 3D heart models, as the heart is certainly not made from hard plastic. Some specialists, such as plastic surgeons render 3D models to allow the patient to visualize the results of specific surgeries. In this process, a picture is taken of the patient, or, a personalized 3D model is created through the use of software based on specific measurements and coordinates to create the desired changes, and visualize these changes - instantly!

3D models have become valuable teaching tools. Many websites allow the user the opportunity to gain valuable insight into the inner working of organ through 3D models. These models are beneficial to students in a secondary school level, all the way to students in a Medical Doctor program. The accuracy is pristine and the renderings allow familiarity, and are easier to learn than a two dimensional image on a page.

Getting Exercise While Playing Video Games!

Getting exercise by playing video games can be misunderstood by many people. How, is the question on everyones mind. Most gaming consoles use the two hands, mainly the two thumbs, which if you think about it, does improve the thumb muscles which can be a huge benefit for those professional P-Knuckle players. Then there's the Nintendo Wii. A console that allows the player to use their actions to play the game. It doesn't matter, how big, how fit, how old or how bad you are at any sports to be able to embrace the potential of this next generation of gaming. Who know, you can maybe try those new sports you thought you can never play. Even more, become better than some of the superstars we have today. The saying does go "Practise makes perfect".

One of the best features of the Nintendo Wii is that you are using a whole new set of muscles that you don't normally use. Not just the two thumbs. Muscles from your arms, upper torso, abdominals, and the legs are all been used. Hence, the best formula to losing weight while having fun playing games. So if you put it all together, exercise can be very enjoying. Who would have thought of that? Maybe this is the next era of decreasing obesity.

It kind of makes you think though. What are they going to make next. With this gaming console/exercise machine already very popular with a variety of groups from gamers, sports people, families and many more. How are they going to enhance what we have today? Can't wait to they bring out the next generation of gaming consoles.

Thanks

Sony Ericsson C905, A Mobile 3D Game

Aside from listening to music most mobile phone users are also avid gamers. Gamers range from CPU, Laptops, PSP, and Gameboy to mobile phones. Graphically, your first choice for gaming would be a PlayStation Portable or a GameBoy or stuff like that. Last, of course, would be playing on your phone. If you don't have much of a choice, you stick with your phone and painstakingly play away and absorb the poor graphics.

Playing games on the mobile phone is not quite entertaining compared to PSP's or Gameboy's since you can't get visual quality no matter how cool the game is. So those game addicts prefer to lug around a PSP or a GameBoy since it is more visually entertaining. So you would need to wear pants with extra or big pockets for it or bring a bag with you or just hang it around your neck. Of course you would look like you're showing off but for all they know it you are already agonizingly putting up with the stiff neck.

But a 3D feature on your mobile phone displaces everything about gaming. Plus you get to answer your phone whenever somebody calls in the middle of a game. Unlike portable game gadgets, you sometimes miss a call on your mobile phone just because you have game earphones on or you did not hear it or forgot to have it vibrate when you get a call. Just make sure the game your downloading is 3D compatible. You surely will need an extra battery for that or bring a charger with you. Just in case you run out of juice during traveling.

3D gaming on your Sony Ericsson C905 mobile phone... now that's entertainment!

Benefits of Rapid Prototyping & 3D Printers

Rapid Prototyping is a very popular process in the manufacturing, design, and medical industries. It help users to develop quick prototypes and obtain accurate feedback from their target audience.

The high demand for rapid prototyping services can be attributed to a number of factors. These services help in eliminating design flaws at the conceptualization stage itself. There are a number of devices that assist in rapid prototyping; 3D Printers being one of them.

Numerous industry verticals require its services; especially those that are associated with design and development of products; the automotive sector being the most prominent of all.

In our opinion, having the support of a reliable vendor can be the source of a sustainable competitive advantage. If your vendor can ensure quick deliveries and provide innovative solutions to your problems then it will greatly reduce your time to market and help you churn newer versions of products with a faster turn around time.

Another advantage is in terms of the safety of intellectual property. Rapid manufacturing solutions tools like 3D printers ensure that your designs never leave the premises of your company and your intellectual property is safeguarded.

This industry is all set for exponential growth in the times to come. However, what is proving to be the biggest impediment to the growth of this industry is the high cost of prototyping machines. This problem is likely to be solved in the near future as demand for prototyping services increase, leading to higher supply and thereby lower MRP of the machines.

Rapid Prototyping is in high demand in medical, engineering, and industry. With computers acquiring digital capabilities; users can input two-dimensional drawings and obtain three-dimensional models of their ideas. The availability of precise image manipulation software's has helped designers to simulate designs with a remarkable degree of accuracy through the use of vectors.

Mathematically computed imagery helps in developing designs with a very low error margin of less than 1 millimeter. An example would illustrate this better. Suppose a group of surgeons want to operate upon the cranium of a patient but have not decided upon the right surgical procedure to be used. Rapid prototyping proves very helpful in such circumstances. By using a prototype of the cranium developed through a three dimensional printer; surgeons can arrive at a strategy before operating on a patient.

Thus, we see that rapid prototyping has the potential to become the backbone of the medical, design and manufacturing industries and is certainly one of the gifts of the digital age to mankind.

At EMS we deliver our 3d scanning, reverse engineering, and rapid prototyping service involving both on-site and off-site engagement models.

Women As a Subject of Art

Women have played a vital role in art and paintings from a long period of time. The representations of women figure in artistic mode have become a distinctive style of the artists. It is little bit tough to imagine a world without images of people but in a particular phase portraiture totally disappeared in Europe with the collapse of Roman civilization. Figures of saints, Virgin Mary, angels and demons were only depicted in the paintings. Self image was not considered as an important element in art of that phase.

But in the meantime these paintings were made, a thousand years after the fall of ancient Rome, notions about identity and the individual had changed. In the earlier portraits the image of individuals were drawn in different matter as for example a women in prayer in front of Virgin Mary.

But with the passage of time portraits of men and women become very popular and it become an integral part of the dynastic kingdom. Even then at that time many aristocratic couples introduced themselves through portraits of themselves. Even painters immortalize their loved ones through images. Paintings were drawn to capture the beauty and spirit of their lady love. Increasingly, the works in these gallery painters strove to convey not simply physical appearance but personality and character as well in their art.

The sex role images also play an integral part of the art. Traditional ideas of masculinity as well as feminism were reinforce in modern art. Women were not only the impetus behind works of art; they were also featured in countless pictures. Although images of women are abundant, their meaning is regulated through eroticization or a Neo-Platonic interpretation. Various images of Eve and the Virgin Mary demonstrate the shameful and lustful cause of expulsion from Eden and the ideal, virginal mother of Jesus.

Even in some cases images of women were often considered to be an empty sign that could symbolize virtues, vices, and intangible ideas. Often women were presented in the guise of famous exemplars, such as Lucretia, a Roman matron who committed suicide to avoid the shame of her rape upon her family members. Even Biblical models like for example Judith, who saved her people when she seduced their enemy Holofernes with alcohol and cut off his head after he collapsed, and Susanna, who refused to have sex with two voyeuristic Elders were also portrayed. They reflect the female virtues, sometimes even the sexual wiles of women are also used in images, emphasizing upon the fact how a female seduce men.

Art has always been the motion of expression of the artist's mind and nowadays art are available online at online art gallery.

An Introduction to the Abstract Artistic Movement

Abstract art is traditionally defined as being those pieces that do not represent objects in a realistic way, relying instead on colors and form. The subject of the art piece can be somewhat based on a realistic object in so far as it is recognizable but there will be obvious stylistic devices used.

It could be argued that abstract art is the oldest movement on Earth, since cave drawings were abstracted versions of daily life. Constructivism brought the abstract theory from paintings to sculptures starting in 1915. The De Stijl architectural movement of two years later also gained inspiration from abstract art.

Famous American abstract artists include Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, Franz Kline and Willem de Kooning. Jackson Pollock became famous for his drip technique that utilized the newly created glossy enamel paints on the market. He used sticks, hard brushes, syringes and the paint cans themselves to drip paint across his canvases. He would often fling the paint from across the room to create a desired effect. He produced his most lasting works between 1947 and 1950. In 1949, Time Magazine featured the artist in a piece they called "Jack the Dripper" and supposed he may be the greatest painter alive in the United States at that time. Pollack soon after dropped his drip technique, evolving into more "traditional" abstract pieces. Pollock, a lifelong alcoholic, died in a drunken driving accident in 1956 when he was 44 years old.

Mark Rothko got his start in the mid-1920s New York in a collective of artists that included Adolph Gottlieb, Barnett Newman, Joseph Solman and John Graham with Milton Avery serving as their epicenter. He compared abstract art to the works created by primitive man and small children. He drew influences from mythology and the works of Friedrich Nietzsche, especially the book The Birth of Tragedy. Rothko was quoted as saying: "I am not an abstract painter. I am not interested in the relationship between form and color. The only thing I care about is the expression of man's basic emotions: tragedy, ecstasy, destiny." He committed suicide at the age of 65 by overdose of antidepressants.

Franz Kline shared a similar action oriented style of painting as Jackson Pollack. His best received works were in black and white. His influences included Japanese calligraphy, railroads and other transportation architectural devices. He was a good friend of Willem De Kooning, who suggested to him the use of a projector which Kline immediately loved.

Willem De Kooning was also an "action" painter. He did a series of abstract figure-based images early in his career. In his later career he turned to the enamels that Pollack favored out of necessity since the traditional paints were too expensive for him to afford. He continued to use figures and entered the maturation of his career. The works he created late in life, during the 1980s, have never been put in an exhibit but are said to have shown great promise in predicting future artistic trends even though de Kooning himself was slipping into Alzheimer's disease.

Sketching - Simplify Your Drawings For Greater Effect

When you first start out as an amateur artist, there is so much knowledge, skills and expertise that are important to learn. It can be quite daunting and the temptation to try out a whole variety of different techniques can be both appealing and almost overwhelming.

While trying out different mediums is always exciting, it is useful initially to learn the basic skills required to master a specific technique. Learning to capture the essence of the subject matter quickly and accurately is high on the priorities list for any beginner to the world of art and this is what makes sketching so important.

* Some artists will spend a long time developing a good sketch, capturing a variety of details so that the picture builds up to reproduce a fairly accurate image. Spending hours however on a single sketch is not a realistic use of time as practice is more important so as to be able to develop your skills in a minimal amount of time. Learning to relax and trust in your ability to reproduce a scene quickly and efficiently is crucial as there may be occasions when a quick sketch is all you can afford time-wisely.

* When out sketching it is easy to spend hours absorbed in the almost impossible to task to capture every line and every curve of the scene in front of you. However, if you wish to take an exact copy of the landscape or subject, then rather than sketching, you could easily use a camera as this would capture all of the details that you would have spent hours laboriously trying to record.

* The true art to sketching is to capture the essence of the subject or at least capture the characteristics so that when you are at home with all of your painting equipment around you, you have enough information recorded so as to be able to reproduce the theme to suit your requirements.

Quite often the information that you leave out from a sketch gives you a freedom to improve, enhance and redesign giving you complete creative license. When you get back to your studio, this is when you start adding more details to your picture.

What if I teach you how to get started with drawing and painting with great ease following simple steps?

Follow these steps for your perfect creativity flow.

A Dream Camera From Samsung

Are you dissatisfied with your old film camera and have some disappointment with your first digital camera? Well, last July Samsung announced their new point and shoot digital camera, the TL 34HD. Amazing is not too strong a word for this state of the art camera.

If you have been beguiled by the quality photos taken by DSLRs but are reluctant to lay out two thousand dollars for a heavy, bulky camera when all you need is a pocket friendly digital camera for kids shots, vacation memories and the occasional wedding in the family.

The TL boasts state of the art features all combined in one package. Fourteen point seven mega pixels allow artifact free sharp enlargements up to 24 x 30 photographs. More important is the fact that you can crop the image severely without loss of quality. This feat is possible due to the large number of pixels, the 25% larger CMOS sensor and the advanced processing used by Samsung.

While the amateur photographer occasionally appreciates having manual controls, the average shooter would rather rely on automatic operation and foolproof results. Aiding you in this endeavor is a three inch diagonal LCD screen with 460,000 pixels of resolution rather than the usual 290K. Also helping you is the anti-glare reflection applied to the screen's surface. This amazing screen is operated by touch. Just tap your finger on the area you want from the menu and the camera does the rest. Even manual focusing can be executed this way.

Other automatic features right out of the future are: face detection, optical and digital image stabilization, 5x digital zoom, 80 to 3200 ISO sensitivity, beauty shot, and blink detection. The beauty shot can be used for smoothing blemishes for outstanding, clean portraits. The blink detection can be a shot saver when you can't go back to do it over.

The lens is the heart of a camera and the single most important quality requirement for good, sharp pictures. The TL is fitted with a Schneider 3.6X zoom lens. The equivalent range comes out to 28mm true wide angle to a decent 102mm medium telephoto. The 5x digital zoom is quite effective when necessary because of the large number of pixels you have to work with. The maximum telephoto extension comes out to about 500mm. Here the dual image stabilization is a God send. For those close up shots of flowers, engagement rings and Mother's Day cards, this lens takes macro pictures at five centimeters with the wide setting and at 50 centimeters at the telephoto setting. When you are finished taking pictures, the lens collapses flush with the body and seals itself with an electric operated lens shade.

This camera is less than four inches long and has metal construction throughout. The design is simple but eye-catching in its fashionable colors of satin silver and red, silver with a gold top or even all brushed stainless black.

I've left the best feature for last. The ability for photographers to create an instant video with sound has recently been a feature adorning many digital cameras. Unfortunately, until now, the video portion has been minimal in quality - about like an analogue television picture - and the sound screechy and distorted. Enter High Definition 1280 x 720 video and stereo sound. With only one limitation of five minutes continuous video, the TL produces an amazingly true movie, viewable on a computer monitor or an HD LCD television screen. Helpful is the Samsung HDMI cradle which allows the regular use of the TV remote. One especially useful feature is the TLs ability to pause the movie action momentarily, then continue seamlessly when ready. Previously, digital cameras created separate clips when stopped. Four qualities are available for movie production, all at thirty frames per second for a professional look. Gratefully, Samsung chose to allow zooming while videoing. I recommend a high speed 16Gb SDHC chip if you plan on using the video feature extensively.

Shutter speeds of 1/2000th to 8 full seconds can be critical to stopping action to long night time exposures. The usual features of Aperture Priority, Auto White balance, and many others are of course present. The ISO sensitivity is usually automatically chosen by the camera according to need but the higher ISO capability of this camera allows candid photography without flash in low light levels for a natural ambiance look to the photos.

A nice element is the recycle bin that stores all your photos and videos even after you delete them. You never know when you will change your mind and regret your deletion and want to retrieve them for posterity. All these features and outstanding image quality is contained in a package three inches high and weighing less than five ounces. The TL can be had for $273.00, and adding $50.00 for the cradle, $17.00 for an extra battery and $140 for an Ultra III SDHC card, you will be ready for anything.

Into The World Of Maya

If we are to talk about computer animation and the software associated with it, there is one name we cant afford to missthats Maya! Maya is the leading name in 3D animation and rendering software for its high-end features and unique capabilities. Getting its name from the Sanskrit word for illusion, Maya indeed lives up to it by its powerfully impressive potential, which have enraptured all the animation-crazy creatures of the present world.

To let you in this world of illusion and Maya, you must know its origin. This is an integrated 3D software package, developed from Alias Power Animator. Maya has been released in two versionsMay Complete and Maya Unlimited (the more advanced version). Many popular feature films of today owe their fame to Maya. For instance, Jurassic Park, Terminator 2: Judgment Day have their fame rested on the power of Maya 3D animation. Mayas originator Alias Research merged with Wavefront-TDI and this resulted in great synergies; both combined their best software strengths taking each step closer to the discovery of Maya.

Alias moved the Mac product Alias Sketch! to the SGI platform and modified it further with the code name Maya. This was when this word first came into use. Later, Alias|Wavefront merger took the Maya saga forward inspiring customers to switch to this high-end product. When Alias was acquired by Autodesk in 2005-2006, this software came to be known as Autodesk Maya.

Maya not just takes prides in its versatile modeler, character animation and visual effects capabilities; it is also strongly popular in video game development. Its node-based architecture helps in creating complex animation and rendering links. Because of its complex functionality, it is quite difficult to learn this. However, Maya tutorials are plenty over the web to help learn comfortably or take guidance.

Maya has also been used in some of the finest animated television shows that time has ever produced. It has a customizable interface which helps in bringing about various high-end visual effects. This is one interesting feature in Mayaits adaptability to third-party software, functioning in the garb of another software. So this precisely explains why Maya is the software of choice in big studios where customized codes are written for production.

With Maya, you are capable of keyframe, nonlinear, and path animation, motion capture animation, skinning, rendering (shading, lighting, and paint effects), constraints, character sets, mental ray rendering, and more. The Unlimited version also helps you to implement cloth, hair, fluid and fur simulation, etc. along with scripting and plug-ins. Maya 3d tutorials are something which you can always fall back on whenever you need guidance or would like to challenge your own understanding of the software. So enjoy being transfixed to this illusion of Maya.

Xbox 360 Dead? Check Out Your Options to Get it Fixed

If your having difficulties with your Xbox 360 console, whether it be red lights flashing, overheating or freezing, most likely your very pissed off at this point, ready to quit, specifically if you don't have the cash to kick out to Microsoft to repair it for you and even then, at a ridiculous cost that not too many people can afford!

No worries, you'll get your Xbox 360 repaired in no time and be playing your best games in no time, because you can bet your butt, this article is going show you exactly what to do and where to start!

Your 3 Very Best Choices...

A.Yes, you could of course send your Xbox 360 into Microsoft for repair, but as you know, that's going to be very expensive, probably more cash than you want to invest and...

B.The other option you have to repair your Xbox 360 is to have a 3rd party Xbox 360 repair company, do the repair work for you. This is a great choice if you are willing to take a bit of a risk. Allot fo the times, unless you know someone, will also try and get a way with charging you as much as they possibly can. You could end up paying twice as much as Microsoft would charge you, now thats ok, but only if you've got the money. The upside to this is, they would probably get it fixed much sooner the Microsoft could.

C. Your third options is...You, repair your own Xbox 360 right at home because all you really need is a good Xbox 360 Repair tutorial to get it done correctly. I know it sounds a bit crazy but you really can fix yourself, without any problems, believe it or not, this is choice that most people are taking just because times are tight right now due to the economy and if they can do it, you can too!

If you're going to try this option it is recommended that you find a tutorial guide with videos, making sure it gets done right.

So, what do you think your best choice is to get this thing fixed? At least now you know your options and where to start.

It's also recommended that if your console (Xbox 360) is still covered under its original 3 year or 1 year warranty to let Microsoft repair the error for you, but if you think it's not a big enough problem to send it in to them and end up waiting the relentless 6-8 weeks... or if you want, you can try to fix the problem yourself, because it's not really that difficult to do, "if a 12 year can fix his Xbox 360", you can certainly do it too!

Free PSP Games - Where Not To Get Free PSP Games From

Free PSP games, is that what all PSP owners want. Well you might be surprised to learn that actually they don't. Why the hell wouldn't you want free PSP games I here you cry, well the answer is simple and goes along the lines of the old saying nothing in life is free. This is certainly true when it comes to free PSP games and downloads.

The truth is if you look hard and long enough you will be able to find free PSP games but your search will be long and painful. Do a Google search "free PSP games" and see what comes back I think at the last count there are over 5 million results but how many of these actually have free games for you to download, not many let me tell you.

As I said before nothing in life is free and when you eventually find a site offering you so called free games it will be filled with at best lots of ads and pop ups and at worst spyware, adware and even the odd virus or two. A couple of friends of mine have been on the quest for free PSP games for a long time now and a few weeks ago I got a call from one of them telling me how I didn't no what I was talking about and they had found a great free download site. You might be able to guess what is coming next, well I now have his computer trying to recover some important files of his that have gone missing due to a strange virus. be warned if you download stuff make sure you trust the site in question otherwise you could encounter a few nasty surprises.

My advice if you want to download game for the PSP is to forget about the free option and join one of the paid membership sites. To be honest I don't really care what you do and the choice at the end of the day is yours. I join a download membership site on the recommendations of a good friend of mine and have never look back. if you are unsure what is all about check the link at the end and it will take you direct to a review of the best download sites available.

Take The Next Step: I love my PSP and the great thing is I get all my games without paying for them. if you love your PSP head on over to Monster-PSP.com For all the latest news on your PSP.

Clothing Etiquette - Bad Wardrobe Decisions Are A Serious Career Mistake

Business Etiquette Major Shortage on the Fashion Police Force

There it was! The perfect outfit Id been looking for to wear when I go on my cruise to the Bahamas. A metallic crop-top cami, a floaty sheer chiffon tiered skirt, strappy stiletto sandals, lots and lots of bangle bracelets, and enough stringed beads to be the envy of any fortune teller. Where did I see this? Not on a runway. Not in the pages of Elle. Not on the hot fashion trends segment of Today. No, this little number was courtesy of an intern on her way to a business briefing.

I thought she might be auditioning for a part in Carmen after work, but not so. Apparently she sees each new day as an opportunity to dazzle her bosses and coworkers with her fashion savvy. Someone desperately needs to tell this young woman that unless she signs a major recording contract or plans to start reading palms full time, she should forget about setting trends and focus instead on developing a professional image.

In my completely subjective opinion, the end of civilization as we knew it started when people began wearing athletic shoes and sweats at work. Okay, so jogging or walking midday is healthier than gorging on nachos and Ho-Hos at a desk, but did anyone else notice that even those who werent exercising during lunch started to wear Reeboks with business attire? While I dont doubt that some people were genuinely intent on improving their health by moving more and eating less, plenty either liked the comfort of such clothes or they were trying to convince themselves and others that they were actually getting buff by just dressing the part.

This was the first chink in the wall of decorum, and from what Ive seen recently, that walls about ready to come a-tumblin down. Consider the establishment of Casual Friday in so many businessesclearly linked to bringing the gym into the workplace. Now employees are trying to bring the weekend into the workplace as well. What is the thinking behind this trend? Is this a subtle indication that we are buying in to the idea of a four-day work week? Is this in some way supposed to appease disgruntled employees?

Even if it started out to be some sort of perk, dressing down at the end of the week has been twisted beyond recognition. This is proof of that old expression: Give em an inch, and theyll eat the whole enchilada. Warm weather makes the situation even worse.

Granted, we expect to see more flesh in the summer than at any other time of the year. Wherever people choose to take a break from work and rising temperatures (the beach, a park, mountain trails), we arent shocked by the sight of bare arms, legs, backs, midriffs, or feet. We can even understand a more pared down approach to dressing in the workplace when temperatures soar, but even so, overexposure and lack of discretion have reached epidemic proportions. Where are the fashion police when you need them?

Just because its hot, this is no reason to ditch your duds or common sense as you head off to work. Most indoor workplaces are air conditioned these days, so its not as though youll be putting in time at a sauna, unless thats where you work. If that is where you work, then you can stop reading now. For the rest of you, keep going.

Many of you probably had mothers or grandmothers who advised you to always wear clean and intact undies when you left home, just in case you got hit by a bus and had to be whisked off to an emergency room somewhere. The presumption was that you actually would be wearing something over your unmentionables. Apparently that part of the message got lost in recent years. Consider the popularity of such items as camisoles, belly shirts, halter tops, and miniskirts. While these are fine away from work, they are not okay at workever!

So who is to blame for the fashion crimes that abound in workplaces today? From what Ive been able to tell, the fault lies with two entities:

1) employers who have let the ponies out of the starting gate and cant corral them back in, and
2) employees who have never heard of dressing for success. Here are a few tips for both sides.

For Supervisors

If your organization has no dress code, establish one.

If your organization has one, enforce it.

Set the standard by being compliant yourself.

You are your employees supervisors, not their pals. Speak up when your sensibilities are assaulted.

If all else fails, send employees home who are inappropriately dressed for your workplace.

For Employees

Know your organizations dress policy.

When in doubt, stray on the side of conservatism.

If you hope to advance in your organization, emulate the style of those whose positions you would like to have.

If you expect to be treated professionally, look professionaleven on Casual Friday.

Use common sense and realize that the media sell trends and not necessarily good taste.

Obviously the standards will vary from one workplace to another. If you work for an organization that requires wearing a uniform, you can quit reading now. If you work for a business that is nontraditional and rather laissez-faire where work attire is concerned, you can stop too. For the rest of you who work in places that have established rules that can be misinterpreted or pushed to the limits, stop and look in the mirror before you leave home. Ask yourself: Does what I have on reflect the image my business wants its clients or customers to see?

Im not suggesting you need to be unduly formal. After all, evening wear in the workplace would be just as inappropriate as a thong bathing suit. Somewhere between these two extremes is a happy medium that will allow you to do your job and look professional. In the meantime, dont rely on fashion or style magazines to determine what is appropriate for your workplace. Save the trendy items for your hours away from workno ifs, ands, butts, or bellies about it!

3D Screensavers Make a Dynamic Desktop Display

Due to the continued advancement of 3D computer graphics technologies, animated screensavers have moved to a whole new level. People can now create stunning 3D screensavers complete with photorealistic environments and wonderfully detailed graphics. Compared to your basic slideshow or simple flash screensavers, animated 3D screensavers make for a more dynamic, engaging and visually interesting desktop display.

Using a variety of programming languages, computer graphics software and 3D modeling and rendering technology, 3D screensavers are created today with high-quality animations, rich, highly detailed 3D environments, photorealistic graphics, realistic lighting effects and 360-degree views. This makes for some really amazing, often lifelike, imagery, which is why these screensavers have become increasingly popular.

Through the magic of 3D screensavers you can transform your desktop into a virtual undersea world, complete with colorful fish and other sea life and realistic underwater plants. Or travel back to prehistoric times and observe dinosaurs in all their majesty and power. Or take a tour of a beautiful foreign city and take in all it's magnificent attractions without every leaving your chair. That sure beats watching a montage of still images of nature sliding across your computer screen.

3D screensavers also feature an extensive array of settings so you can customize the features and performance. Using the custom settings you can, for example, select the number and speed of moving objects, change backgrounds or colors, choose camera angles, adjust sound volume, add or remove effects and set your own custom music.

It's important to note that because of the way they are designed and coded, 3D screensavers have certain minimum system requirements. Also, due to their larger file sizes, 3D screensavers may take a bit longer to download. But the wait is worth it. Here are just a few of my favorite 3D screensavers:

1. Solar System 3D

This outstanding 3D model of the solar system, serves both as a screensaver and an educational astronomy program. View all the planets of our solar system, along with their satellites, complete with basic facts on each.

2. Coral Reef

Discover the beauty of a lifelike coral reef with this aquatic 3D screensaver. Colorful, tropical fish swim among the coral against the backdrop of an ancient sunken ship.

3. SeaStorm 3D

A twister forms over the stormy ocean surface in this 3D screensaver. Feel the fury of the sea in this photorealistic seascape complete with amazing atmospheric effects and stereo sound effects.

4. Winter Night 3D

Take in a quiet night in a small town with this serene winter scene, complete with realistic graphics and high-quality animation. A full 3D environment, along with relaxing music, creates a charming, immersive atmosphere.

5. Japanese Garden 3D

Enjoy the spiritual atmosphere of this serene Japanese garden. The picturesque scenery, with its extremely realistic, colorful graphics, along with the enchanting music creates a beautiful natural environment.

Check out 3D screensaver publishers such as Astro Gemini and 3Planesoft to find these great 3D screensavers and more.

How to Set Up A 3D Design Studio Using Only Free Software

3D Graphics creations are often perceived as requiring costly software. Well, this is not always the case because the internet is really a place loaded with free goodies waiting to be utilized. With the relevant skill, a designer or artist can produce works (using these free tools) that are comparable to what professional tools can do.

I will show you how to start a professional 3D graphic design studio using only free software. To produce credible 3D graphics, the tools must be able to perform the various functions namely:

1. Modelling

2. Rendering

3. Animation

4. Image editing

5. Texture creation

Well, we need to substitute commercial tools with their free and or open source equivalents.

The following is a reference to the various free 3D and graphics related resources that can be downloaded from the net.

For 3D modelling, rendering and animation there are at least 2 excellent free alternatives. They are Blender 3D and Truespace 3.2. You can get Blender 3D from www.blender3d.com. Truespace 3.2 can be downloaded from www.caligari.com which is the homepage of Truespaces maker.

For purely dedicated 3D modeling, Wing3D is an easy to use yet very powerful tool. You can get this 3D modeling software from www.wings3d.com. What you need to do, is to model your stuffs on this software and then export then to either Blender3D or Truespace. File formats such as 3D Studio (3DS) , Wavefront (OBJ) and VRML (WRL) are all supported by Wings3D and can be used for exporting 3D models (created in Wings3D) to other 3D programs such as Blender3D and Truespace.

For image editing and texture creation, Gimp is a most excellent tool. This is a very powerful image editing tool. It supports layers like most professional image editors. Its many filters are excellent for creating textures and image maps for 3D models. Gimp can be downloaded from www.gimp.org.

Less well-known than Gimp but very delightful to use is Pixia. This is a Japanese software. Fortunately there is an English version. This tool is excellent for painting and is thus useful for creating image maps for 3D models. Pixia can be downloaded from http://park18.wakwak.com/~pixia/.

Well, these are the free equivalents that can perform the work of commercial tools. Commercial software may be more convenient and easier to use, nevertheless these free tools can get the job done too. So, if you are on a tight budget, this may be the route to go.

The Future of 3D Printing

Firstly lets clarify what is meant by 3D printing, well in a nut shell it is a way of fabricating objects designed on computer, for example if you designed a mug using computer aided design, within a few hours you could have the real thing sitting in front of you. It is possible to watch your very creations come to life in true Star Trek fashion, before your very eyes.

To go into more detail, currently printers are fairly slow, limited and not tremendously precise. A home 3D printer will typically set up back about ten thousand pounds, but this is cheap considering the first commercially available printers cost at least ten times that amount. 3D printers presently are capable of fabricating objects using silicon and certain types of metal, other substances that have been tested are plaster, play-doh and even chocolate!

A home 3D printer is about the size of a Microwave and connects directly to a desktop computer running software that controls its operation. It then creates objects layer-by-layer by squeezing material from a mechanically-controlled syringe. Unfortunately printers are somewhat limited in the sense they still produce a fairly rough end product and the time scale it takes to print an object is considerable.

Despite all the technical implications, there are huge possibilities for the future of 3D printing. All ground breaking technology starts somewhere, for example in the case of the PC, mainframes had existed for years, but personal computing only took off in the late seventies. A cheap self-assembly computer called the Altair 8800, launched in 1975, sparked the rapid development of personal computing. In similar circumstances self assembly 3D printers hope to spark the same rapid development in rapid prototyping.

There are a number of different 3D printers available on the market today, all with slightly different advantages, disadvantages, quirks and features. Some interesting projects include an open source 3D printer which has successfully been used to fabricate better parts to replace existing parts on the printer itself. The ultimate goal of 3d printers is to perfectly replicate themselves, allowing much more cost effective manufacturing.

The future for 3D printing seems very promising, it is the fastest growing part of the rapid-prototyping industry with revenues this year expected to be approximately a billion US dollars. Many industries are showing huge amounts of interest and are seem great potential in different applications where they could utilize three dimensional printing. The US army have experimented using rapid prototyping to create parts for broken tanks, guns and other hardware in combat situations. Businesses believe a rapid prototyping machine could prove invaluable in showing factories how to assemble parts remotely, for example in China. Even NASA has requested a high resolution machine to manufacture crucial parts in space.

In conclusion what is stopping you being part of a truly revolutionary technology, which could become one of the major breakthroughs of the twenty first century? 3D printing has merely been science fiction until recently, where it is now most certainly science fact. What can we expect to see in the not so far away future? Well one ultimate goal is printable organic parts, for example replacement organs, identical skin grafts and even limbs, to combat victims of illness, disease and war.

How to Create an Awesome Model Portfolio

Creating a model portfolio is a process

Ok, you're ready to create your portfolio. All you have to do is contact your local photographer, set up a photo session, have prints made and put them in a book, right? WRONG!!!
You want your model portfolio to be professional, complete, and impressive when you show it. This is one of the single most important steps you'll take other than promotion so get it right!

What is a model portfolio?

Your model portfolio book will be made up of a book with anywhere between 10 and 25 photos normally consisting of 9x12 prints.
You will want a good selection of different types of "looks" in your portfolio. For example; have some photos created indoors in a home setting, some in the studio, some outdoors in different locations.

Also include shots which may be considered commercial, fashion, casual, and editorial content. Ask the photographer to help you with choosing looks that best fit your personality and the type modeling you wish to pursue.

You'll also want to include a good headshot (without makeup) and a good body shot (swimwear or tight-fitting clothing) especially if you plan to apply to the larger model markets. These larger markets such as the top NY agencies like to see exactly what they are getting when they view your photos. They don't want to see fancy posing or clutter, just you so keep this in mind when creating model photos for them to view.

Do not think that "more is better". It's much more effective to have 8 absolutely beautiful, perfectly shot photos in your portfolio than 100 mediocre ones.

Please keep this in mind when putting your portfolio together because it's very important! If you have to really pine over whether or not an image makes the grade for quality or belongs in your model book, it most likely doesn't.

A professional photographer or agent can help you decide when it comes to quality of photos so ask for advice if you're not sure. Also, you can view model images on agency websites or on my on site at www.bobpardue.com/model/photo-gallery to see if the quality of your image is up to standard.

Let's get started

Now, let's get started in developing your model portfolio. A really good, complete model portfolio is not created overnight. You will develop it as you develop your talent by working with different photographers.

Different photographers? Won't this cost a fortune?

A terrific model portfolio won't cost you a fortune if you follow the simple steps below. Your model portfolio will not be free, mind you, but way less expensive than paying several different photographers to shoot each section.

Step One - Paid Photo Session

If you are working on a tight budget, this may be a little painful to you but worth it if you are trying to build a killer portfolio.

Finding a photographer for your first model session

Although your local portrait photographer may be teriffic in doing family portraits or weddings, he/she may not know all the ins and outs of creating a model portfolio. You may want to check to see if they offer this service but I would check places like One Model Place or Model Mayhem for photographers who are well experienced in portfolio work.

You should be able to hire a really good photographer for anywhere between $300. to $1,000. with the latter being the extreme in a high-end market area. I would think the average would be around $600.
When choosing your photographer, don't just base your decision on price. If the photographer can't produce those perfect images for your portfolio, it doesn't matter what it costs!

What you should ask the photographer

Below are some questions to ask your photographer before agreeing to hire him/her for the job of creating your model portfolio.

Ask if he is experienced in model portfolio development - Be sure to choose a photographer who is used to creating model portfolios so that there is less chance of confusion about what you need and desire in your portfolio

Ask where the photographer is located (This really seems silly but I have received hundreds of contacts from across the US just because models brought up my website when they did a search on photographers in their areas)

Ask for references of recent model shoots (contact at least two models)

Ask for the price range for portfolio packages, how many photos, etc.

Tell the photographer the type 0f model images you need and ask if she has the ability to create them

Ask who will provide the hair and makeup artist(s), you or the photographer. This varies greatly and I would suggest having these services no matter who provides them

Ask if he provides retouching or airbrushing services and whether this is included in the original fee given

Ask how the photos are delivered - This also depends on the photographer's way of doing business so is very important. For instance, we deliver all our images on cd but in printable and web formats so that the model can have copies made whenever she needs them. Also, this means she does not have to print every photo to get what she needs.

Ask about usage rights - This question relates to the previous one. It's very important that you receive usage and reprint rights for your promotions. If the photographer does not offer reprint rights, ask about usage of the prints. You may be able to work something out with him

Ask how long it takes to receive your images after the shoot. You don't want to wait for an eternity or until you are six months older before receiving your portfolio photos.

Ask about clothing and props - What should you furnish and does the photographer have any props and/or outfits on hand

Ask if she will assist you in your posing - Tell her that you are new and ask for posing suggestions

Ask if you can bring a friend or parent (If the photographer refuses this request, I would suggest looking for a different photographer)

Ask if the photographer will help in your promotion - Not the usual job of the photographer but some will. We offer an online comp card album online for six months with each model portfolio session.

Ask the photographer if she offers a guarantee. You should be well satisfied with your photos. After all, it's your model portfolio you will be showing to the world so you'll want it done right!

Whew!!! You may say, "That's a fountain of questions!! A geyser!!" but all these questions are essential to choosing your photographer wisely and will help you to have a better chance of working with someone you can trust to create your all-important model portfolio.

I hope that this report has been helpful to you and I hope you lots of success in your modeling career!

Do Not Buy Toddy Coffee Maker If You Want to Brew Any Coffee!

It is true, toddy coffee maker cannot brew you any coffee! Firstly, it was not designed to brew any coffee, and it is not meant to be a stove top coffee pot. Toddy is a special coffee brewer that can only do cold coffee!

And by cold coffee, I do not mean the type that goes cold after it have been left on the table for sometime. By cold coffee, I meant those that can serve chill something like cold lemonade.

Now, if you asked me who would want to drink cold coffee, that is really a matter of preference, but all I can say is that toddy cold brew has a huge following and is doing a roaring business in US.

The reason that they are not so popular in other part of the world is merely due to their marketing strategy. Currently, they are limiting their marketing effort to US. Even, on their website, they are only selling to US citizens.

From a marketing perspective, this is not a very savvy marketing plan as you are effectively limiting your group of consumers that you are able to sell to. But, by adopting this strategy, you can see how confident toddy is about their sales. So, my take is, they are doing more than enough sales from the US, and currently have no plan for expansion.

For those that have not used a toddy brewer before, the concept of producing coffee without hot water or stove must be very novel. This cold brew is attained by using time as a variable.

The very first step in doing this cold brew is to fill the brewing container with 1 pound of ground coffee. For a pound of coffee ground, you would need to pour 4 cups of cold water into the filter. And then you wait for at least 5 minutes.

After this 5 minutes, you add another 5 more cups of water into the filter. After this, you need to do more waiting, you would wait overnight, so you would place the container into the fridge.

This time round, you would need to wait for at least 12 hours. This is to allow the coffee to steep through the cold press filter. The liquid coffee will drain through the filter into the glass carafe.

Well, this is why I said earlier in the title about not buying the toddy coffee maker if you are someone that wants to brew your coffee. There is not much skill or technique involved in getting a toddy cold coffee, one does however, need to have lots of patience though.

Personally, I think this is a brewer that is easy to use and the cold coffee that results from it, is also pretty good. However, as cold coffee is the usual way of consuming this coffee (you can actually microwave the coffee concentrate to drink it hot), it would be more of a summer drink than a regular coffee brewer for most of us.

Therefore, for the majority of us, regardless if you like the cold brew or not, even if you do own toddy coffee brewer, it is very likely that you would also be getting a normal coffee maker as well.
